This report analyses data from the survey conducted in October 2023, focusing on Italian consumers' expectations for the following 12 months concerning key microeconomic indicators: individual income—both total and from employment/pensions—, total consumption, energy consumption, healthcare expenditure, and durable goods purchasing intentions.
The survey reveals that current income appears to significantly influence expectations regarding income and consumption. Although most respondents anticipate a decline in future income, both overall and from employment, lower-income groups tend to be more pessimistic than wealthier ones.
Expected consumption—including overall consumption, spending on durable goods, and healthcare expenses—also tends to increase in line with current income. Conversely, the anticipated increase in consumption for utility bills, as well as expectations for interest rates, is more uniform across the entire sample and therefore independent of income group.
