This report is based on data from the Italian Survey on Consumer Expectations (ISCE) collected in January 2025. It examines Italian consumers' expectations for 2025 regarding key macroeconomic and microeconomic variables, providing an intertemporal comparison with previous quarters.
The findings reveal a growing distrust among consumers regarding the country's capacity for economic growth and job creation, with expectations notably more pessimistic than those of major forecasting institutions. Expected consumption for the next twelve months has also declined, while energy costs are once again weighing heavily on household spending, driven by a new cycle of price increases. Meanwhile, consumers anticipate being able to invest their savings at relatively high, though gradually declining, rates of return compared to previous quarters.
